Having read more complete (or size-able) biography on the great florentine poet, I was amazed by how much new information I received from reading this little edition. The text draws a valiable picture of setting by laying the foundation of Dante's life squarely between the walls of Florence, describing the city and important events of his time.

We are given insight into the works of Dante including the lesser known Convivio and it is this type of detail along with information about his life away from Florence, exiled in Verona and Ravenna that makes this such a unique read. The perfect book for those interested in Dante's life and work but have been put off by heavier reads on the subject.
